Background of amusement parks
Carnivals and amusement parks have been around since early ages. Knott’s Berry Farm was the first one to open in the United States in 1846. The most popular amusement park in the U.S. is Cedar Point located in Sandusky, Ohio. The first roller coaster built in the United States was at Coney Island in 1884, called the Switchback railway. LaMarcus Adna Thompson was the first person invent the roller coaster on January 20, 1885. Russian mountains was the name of the first roller coaster ever invented. The average roller coaster takes up to three minutes to complete the full ride. Steel Dragon 2000 is the world's longest roller coaster and is located in Japan. The length of the roller coaster is approximately 8,133 feet long.
Our favorite amusement park to go to is Kings Dominion which is in Doswell, Virginia. Kings Dominion was first opened on May 3,1975. It is owned by Taft Broadcasting of Cincinnati. This amusement park attracts about 30,000 people a week. Our favorite ride is the backlot stunt coaster. It goes up to forty MPH and is forty-feet tall. The backlot stunt coaster is not controlled by a chain it is actually ran by a magnet. It first arrived at kings dominion is 2006 and has a drop of thirty-one feet. The ride is 1,920 feet long is about one minute and four seconds long.
