Kite flying-
The kite flying myth is about when long, long ago, birds flew over the Polynesian islands and they sang a beautiful melody. The birds appeared to have no color so the people listened and enjoyed their beautiful music. The demigod Maui heard it and enjoyed it so much! Another God visited from another island and told how wonderful his own island was and how beautiful it was.
The Maui called for his birds to come and sing for the other God. The God was so amazed that Maui let the birds have color and be seen! Later, he must have thought of making his kites because of the birds and he created the wind

GHOST OF THE HILO HILLS
Hilo is a beautiful city where Maui and his family are commonly known about. There are hills that
are small craters that have some kind of a connection with ancient lava flow that causes great violence. Hina was Maui’s mother, she had the control of fire. However, natives say that Maui came to burn or cook the rain. “The goddess of rain” escaped over the hill and became the form of a dark rain cloud. Many people kept a lookout for him waiting for him to come back. Meanwhile, Maui changed himself into a white bird to catch the ghost of the goddess of rain. He caught the ghost and then rolled it in kapa cloth so that it could be put in the oven to “burn the rain.”
