Why learn sign language?
It is a visual language used to communicate with people who aren't capable of the spoken language. It is the third mostly used language in the U.S.. Learning sign language is absolutely fantastic! Learning sign language helps boost your brain power. By doing so it improves your problem solving skills, creative thinking, and listening skills. It also helps to communicate with people and learn more about the deaf culture. Sign language has been around for a long time and I'm sure it will be around for more!
How to communicate
- Get a study tool! It can be a sign language dictionary, an app, or you can join a class taught by a deaf instructor.
- You should ask someone who is able to teach you the sign language alphabet how to form the motions and shape of them and practice them yourself.
- Once you practice the alphabet you should study independently.
- You should make friends with people who are deaf and learn about their culture but the person does not have to be deaf.
- You will have to be able to condense your thoughts since there are fewer words in sign language than in the English language
- When dealing with people who do sign language often you should take in consideration that these people are very sensitive and you should be polite about it.
How does sign language effect the world and yourself?
Learning sign language can better your understanding of a different type of culture. Learning a different language will take a little practice, so don't get stressed out when you don't do it correctly. Some people learn in different ways and will learn at a different paces. Learning sign language will absolutely come in handy. You will never know when you may have to use it.
