New York City, know as the “Big Apple” is easy to navigate and home of some of the world’s famous museums. Over the years, NYC has grown to be very popular. During the 1840s and 50s the city began to change. People started to know more about it and businesses started to grow. New York is the place where the ball drops every year on New Years Eve.
Times Square is a great night attraction that New York has. It was built in 1940 and has seemed to come a long way since then. Times Square is one of the most visited places in the world, with over 360,000 people a day and 66,000 between 7pm and 1am each night! Museums are another attraction that New York has. Some of the most famous museums are Museum of Modern Art, American Museum of Natural History, Tenement Museum, The Museum of Mathematics, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Many people enjoy going to and seeing many interesting Broadway shows such as Aladdin, Cats, and Chicago.

- 1524- Explorer Giovanni Da Verrazzano, commissioned by the king of France sailed to the new world, and into what is now known as New York harbor, accompanied by Jacques Cartier.
- 1624- New York was founded.
- 1775-Ethan Allen, Benedict Arnold, and 83 “green mountain boys” surprised the sleeping British garrison at Fort Ticonderoga.
- 1777- George Clinton was elected as New York's first governor.
- 1807- Robert Fulton’s North River steamboat traveled from New York to Albany.
- 1848-Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, and more than 300 women and men gathered in Seneca Falls, for the nation's first women’s rights convention.
- 1974/1978- Hugh Carey was elected governor of New York.
