History of styling/Dying Hair
Styling hair goes way back in history. It has been found all over the world. Specifically in places like Asia, Africa, Egypt, Europe, and America. In Egypt,( 3000 B.C.) girls wore ponytails, braids, and plaits. While young adults shaved their heads. The earliest evidence of hair braiding is found in many ancient pieces of art. The hairstyle “mohawk” comes from the mohawk tribe. The tribes wore the hairstyle shaved one side and long on the other. The long side of the hair was braided and decorated.
Dyeing hair has been found since the 500s. In the Roman Empire most people were required to have yellow hair to indicate their profession. To solve this problem, most people wore wigs. Later they used the ashes from burned plants and nuts to achieve the yellow look. Red hair appeared in the Dark Ages due to a genetic mutation. William Henry perkin was trying to find a cure for malaria but instead he made a color changing molecule from Mauveine. The brand L’Oreal became known in the 1900’s. A few years later, L’Oreal started to make slogans like “Because you're worth it” to increase the number of of hair color products being bought. In the 80’s celebrities started to try to sell the hair products.

- 1931- Jean Harlow is the founder of platinum blonde.
- 1970- Eugene Schueller created the first chemical dye for commercial purposes and called it Aureole.
